Mandometer is a distinctive clinic in Sweden that helps people with eating disorders using the research-based Mandometer device. The Mandometer is a wireless tool that connects to your smartphone through Bluetooth. It monitors how much food is left on the plate during the meal and produces a graphic of eating pace. At the same time, the app shows a comparison curve representing typical eating speed. Periodically, a feeling-of-satiety indicator appears, and the client rates how full they feel. By following the on-screen reference, clients learn to recognize and match the level of fullness that feels right.
At the start of care, each client completes an initial evaluation, after which the team creates an individualized wellness plan. Instead of relying mainly on standard talk therapy or 12-step models, Mandometer focuses on building a more typical daily routine with medical oversight. During sessions, clients eat in the Mandometer environment to support healthy eating patterns. After the meal, they can unwind in a comfortable rest area where the temperature can be raised to about 104 degrees if desired. The method is described as calming and as a way to disrupt the cycle of exercising or moving right after eating as a form of self-punishment. As progress is made, clients gradually transition away from the Mandometer and continue to receive support when needed.
Mandometer operates five clinics, four in Stockholm and one in Alingsås. Around 1,000 individual patients visit the Mandometer Clinics each year. Each clinic includes dining rooms, kitchens, heating rooms, family spaces, study and activity areas, a joy workshop, as well as examination rooms and offices. Since 1993, the Mandometer Clinics have been treating patients successfully in Sweden, the USA, and Australia using the Mandometer method.
Also confirm the facility is licensed by California. If you are withdrawing from alcohol or benzodiazepines, ask about medical detox; do not stop suddenly on your own.
Mandometer Clinic did not report which payment types it accepts. If you have Medicaid, ask whether the facility accepts your California Medicaid plan or can refer you to one that does. Most private plans must cover substance use treatment on terms comparable to other medical care under federal parity law.
