About Embark at Newport Beach

Embark at Newport Beach provides assessment and care for adolescents and families dealing with mental health and behavioral challenges. The center helps individuals struggling with issues such as anxiety, depression, and suicidal thoughts. They also treat a range of other conditions, including eating disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), bipolar disorder, borderline personality disorder (BPD), family-related conflict, social withdrawal, and problems related to technology or behavioral addiction. Treatment is tailored to each person, with patients and families involved in developing specific plans designed around their circumstances and goals. The staff at Embark, with their clinical expertise, delivers research-informed approaches including dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), trauma-focused cognitive behavioral therapy (TF-CBT), and SMART addiction counseling focused on skills for recovery and self-management.

A key part of Embark’s services is the partial hospitalization program (PHP), also referred to as the therapeutic day program. This is the highest level of care offered and is designed for those stepping down from residential treatment or needing more structured support than typical outpatient options. The therapeutic day program generally includes 27 to 30 hours of programming each week, spread across five days, while participants live at home. Along with individual, group, and family therapy, the program offers educational support so students can continue their studies and earn credits that may be transferred back to their school.

For families seeking a step that still provides strong support but less time, Embark offers an intensive outpatient program (IOP). This option supports ongoing individualized treatment while requiring fewer hours. The IOP is mainly group-based and typically includes sessions three to four days per week for about three hours each day. In addition to group therapy, participants continue individual counseling and family support services. Sessions are held in the evenings to fit around school and work commitments, helping youths and families maintain daily routines while receiving care. When a less intensive plan is appropriate, Embark’s continuum of care includes ongoing outpatient 1-on-1 therapy on a weekly or bi-weekly schedule, with the option of virtual or in-home counseling for individuals and families.
