Part of Ascend Healthcare, Trails House is a residential program for adolescent boys ages 12 to 17 who are dealing with primary mental health challenges and/or substance use disorders. The Trails approach is built on the belief that many teens facing urgent emotional or behavioral struggles are influenced by experiences of trauma. Their trauma-informed model focuses on identifying and treating the underlying trauma that may be fueling the symptoms. Trails supports boys who have faced a wide range of traumatic experiences, including both straightforward and complex trauma, as well as difficult events such as parental divorce, the death of a loved one, or bullying. Using eco-therapies, time in nature, and animal-assisted activities, Ascend Trails aims to help teens develop healthier coping skills while supporting healing for the entire family.
Programming combines recreational activities with established evidence-based practices. The center’s eco-therapy initiative is designed to strengthen clients’ sense of connection and awareness. Through this process, boys may participate in gardening, equine-assisted therapy, hiking, and guided meditation.
Located in Los Angeles, California, The Trails House provides a home-like environment and a range of amenities meant to support recovery. These include staff available around the clock, a private chef, a basketball court, a pool, classrooms with computer stations, and garden areas for quiet and reflection. Ascend Healthcare is accredited by the Joint Commission and works with most private insurance plans.
