Ascend Healthcare is a residential program designed for teenagers aged 12–17 who are facing mental health challenges and substance use. The center offers a structured 45–90 day treatment plan that combines proven therapeutic methods with hands-on programs, along with family therapy and a distinctive clinical model aimed at helping each client move toward lasting success. This clinical approach supports clients in building confidence and taking an active role in their own recovery. Using a Matrix Model, Ascend integrates individualized counseling, early recovery support, relapse prevention planning, family education, peer and social support, and ongoing testing to guide progress.

The staff at Ascend is committed to addressing the root causes behind both addiction and mental health difficulties. Treatment may include evidence-based options such as CBT, EMDR, psychotherapy, medication management, and somatic experiencing. Alongside these clinically supported therapies, the program also provides experiential mental health activities to support emotional expression, symptom relief, and the development of healthier daily habits. Depending on the needs of the teen, services can include art therapy, equine therapy, gardening, hiking, music therapy, yoga, and surf therapy.

During treatment, each client participates in at least two private therapy sessions per week and attends one individualized family session per week with a licensed therapist. Clients also meet with the Ascend psychiatrist at least once weekly throughout the program. With a strong commitment to LGBTQ+ inclusion, Ascend works to respect and affirm each client’s identity and personal experience.

Based in Encino, California, Ascend Healthcare provides home-like living accommodations and a range of amenities intended to support healing.
