About Riverside University - Behavioral Health and Nutrition Services

Across the Inland Empire, Riverside University Health System (RUHS) operates as a general health care system that provides both mental health care and treatment for substance use disorders through residential and outpatient programs. The organization holds accreditation from the Joint Commission and CARF.

RUHS serves several age groups, including children, transitional-age youth (16–25), midlife adults, and adults 60 and older, with interventions designed for each stage of life. A key focus is early intervention, including the Set-4-School initiative for children ages 0–5, reflecting how important early developmental support can be. RUHS may also provide services in clients’ homes, particularly for older adults, and offers targeted programming for pregnant and parenting women as well as people involved in the criminal justice system.

To improve access, RUHS provides translation services for all programs, including interpretation in American Sign Language (ASL). Children can receive treatment up to age 5 with a parent or guardian, and all RUHS locations, including the Hemet Family Care Center, are wheelchair accessible.

RUHS follows a “whatever-it-takes” approach by delivering individualized assistance such as therapy, help with housing, and daily living skills training to support stability and long-term recovery. Treatment may include medication support and medication-assisted treatment (MAT), multidimensional family therapy (MDFT), and coordination with primary care providers. Their name also covers additional centers such as their Behavioral Health and Nutrition Services Center, Desert Mature Adult Prevention & Early Intervention Center, and Desert Hot Springs Substance Abuse, highlighting care aimed at older adults and those with substance use disorders.

Clients can review their treatment notes during and after care through the MyChart app.
