About Doc's Place Recovery

Located along the coast of southeast Georgia, Doc's Place Recovery offers long-term sober housing for men, particularly those in their 20s and 30s, who are rebuilding their lives after drug or alcohol addiction. House managers and visiting alumni help shape day-to-day activities and also plan outings beyond the property.

The one-time admission fee is $4,500, and it covers groceries for the first month. Doc's Place operates three nearby locations that are close to each other.

Weekday routines start at 9 a.m., while weekend mornings begin at 10 a.m. Throughout the day, residents attend a 12-Step Facilitation meeting, including options like Alcoholics Anonymous (AA). By day 14, the program expects participants to secure and maintain full-time employment. Nightly curfew is typically at 11 p.m.

On weekends, Doc's Place takes advantage of nearby beaches and parks to host group activities such as surfing, fishing, sports, fitness sessions, and other community events. Surfboards are kept on-site for residents to borrow. After 90 days in residence, clients may request weekend passes.

The center also schedules group therapy with outside clinicians, and alumni or guest speakers occasionally come in to work with residents. Sessions focus on co-occurring mental health concerns that can interfere with maintaining sobriety. Staff check in on recovery progress every other week.

The program runs for a year, and many men choose to remain longer. Weekly random drug testing is part of the process, with tests provided by the house at no additional cost. After 30 days, residents may use electronic devices if approved by a house manager or director, and phones can be used to coordinate with family, employers, Doc's Place staff, and others involved in their recovery.

Visitors and medications must be approved by directors or staff. Items that include alcohol, such as mouthwash and cough medicines, are not permitted, and alcohol-containing versions of even non-alcoholic beer are restricted.
