About Zen Institute

The rehabilitation center in Tucson provides care through a structured 30-day intensive outpatient program. Services are designed for people dealing with severe anxiety, depression, trauma-related symptoms, substance use disorders, and co-occurring conditions. The treatment model combines Eastern-inspired principles with clinically proven methods, including cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT), eye movement therapy (EMDR), and Zen’s own innovative Inner Twin Therapy.

This program is especially suited for individuals who face intense anxiety and depression or are experiencing post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). It is also intended for those who struggle with substance use or have a pattern of long-term relapse, particularly when they do not have the means for inpatient treatment or cannot be away from their family for extended periods. Depending on the needs of the client, treatment may include both group and individual sessions. After finishing the 12 sessions in the IOP program, clients transition into Zen’s aftercare plan, which offers two sessions each month. Some clients may also choose deep transcranial magnetic stimulation (dTMS) to help reduce depressive symptoms.

Zen’s philosophy is that the underlying driver of suffering is negative thinking shaped by the ego. The center focuses on helping clients shift toward their true, authentic self instead of operating from ego-based patterns. Clients develop practical tools such as meditation and mindfulness, strategies to manage cravings and negative thoughts, and skills for healthy communication, emotional expression, and setting clear boundaries.
