About Cottonwood Tucson

Recognized by Newsweek as one of America’s Best Addiction Treatment Centers in 2023, Cottonwood Tucson provides treatment for primary mental health concerns, substance use disorders, process addictions, and co-occurring conditions. The center offers medically supervised detox, residential programming, day treatment (partial hospitalization), and intensive outpatient services. During detox, clients receive evaluation from a medical provider, close nursing oversight, monitoring of vital signs, and medication that is provided under supervision. After residential care, clients can step into outpatient programming to keep strengthening life skills and reduce the risk of relapse. Cottonwood Tucson limits enrollment to 9 clients at a time.

The multidisciplinary team at Cottonwood Tucson includes psychiatrists, psychologists, nurses, nutritionists, and substance use counselors who support recovery. The center treats addictions to alcohol, opioids, cocaine, and other substances. It also functions as a mental health provider, working with conditions such as depression, bipolar disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), and eating disorders. Treatment is available for process addictions including gambling, video game use, shopping, and sex addiction.

Clients receive care through both individual and group therapy sessions using a range of evidence-based approaches. The program is 12-Step oriented and includes trauma-focused options such as eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR), somatic experiencing, and trauma release exercises (TRE). Skill-building is a key part of treatment, with relapse prevention planning and training in communication, relationship skills, anger management, and developing a reliable support network. For those dealing with chronic pain, Cottonwood Tucson offers alternative pain management methods such as acupuncture, biofeedback, cryotherapy, myofascial release therapy, and nerve blocks. The family program includes psychoeducation, communication coaching, multiple family group sessions, and individual family meetings, with a five-day family week providing 8 hours of support each day.

Cottonwood Tucson also incorporates holistic approaches aimed at supporting healing of the mind, body, and spirit. Clients may participate in yoga, meditation, massage, Reiki, mindfulness practices, tai chi, and passive muscle relaxation. Additional options include structured exercise, breathing techniques, and a whole-food nutrition plan. The center features on-site equine therapy, walking trails, and a meditation garden.
