About Banner University Medical Center

Located in downtown Phoenix near Highway 10, Banner Behavioral Health’s University Medical Center provides care for teenagers 12 and older and adults who are dealing with mental health or substance use concerns. As part of the Banner Health system, the center offers services in an environment that feels like a hospital setting, while also using the broader organization’s resources to support additional healthcare needs within a coordinated, integrated facility. This location operates weekdays from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Banner offers either a 12-Step or a non-12-Step treatment approach, depending on what each client wants and what fits their individual needs. In addition to medication management, the program includes evidence-based counseling approaches such as cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), and eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR).

For teens ages 12 to 17, Banner delivers many of the same treatment modalities as it does for adults, but with added focus on family therapy, group-based therapeutic work, and life skills development. The goal is to help younger clients manage their situations more effectively and reduce the likelihood of risky choices. Banner also considers age when setting expectations around visits and cell phone use.
