About Algamus Gambling Recovery Center

Algamus Recovery Services has more than three decades of experience helping people deal with gambling addiction and the specific challenges that come with it. The center supports both men and women from a wide range of backgrounds and treats many forms of gambling problems, such as sports betting, poker, casino table games, slot machines, online gambling, and more. Algamus has appeared on A&E’s Intervention and is widely recognized as one of the few residential gambling treatment options in the United States, as well as the only one accredited by JCAHO.

The program at Algamus typically runs for four to eight weeks in a residential setting and is designed specifically for gambling addiction. Many members of the team are also in recovery, which helps them create a caring atmosphere grounded in practical understanding of the financial, legal, and emotional pressures gambling addiction can bring. Treatment blends research-supported methods such as cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), structured group work, and holistic activities aimed at mindfulness, physical well-being, and creative expression. Certified gambling counselors and clinical psychiatrists focus on the underlying factors that drive addiction, including co-occurring mental health conditions, while also incorporating the 12-Step approach.

Algamus also uses the Enneagram, a personality model, as part of its treatment plan. This framework helps clients build self-awareness by identifying the thinking patterns, emotional triggers, core fears, and motivations that contribute to gambling urges. By doing so, it promotes emotional recovery and encourages healthier coping strategies. Clients receive individualized treatment plans aligned with their specific Enneagram type.

During treatment, clients stay in a quiet lodge that is free from gambling and substances. With only 10 beds, including two private rooms suited to special requirements such as CPAP users, the accommodations are designed for comfort, featuring queen beds and no televisions in the bedrooms to support rest and reflection. Residents can unwind in one of three common areas, including two with TVs and a more relaxed den with a fireplace, or take advantage of outdoor features like a swimming pool and fire pit. Gym access, as well as the option to prepare meals themselves, helps reinforce a home-like atmosphere. The lodge is situated in a peaceful desert setting, intentionally set apart from gambling venues, creating a safe and welcoming environment for people working to recover from gambling disorder.
