About North Slope Borough Health Department
The North Slope Borough's Behavioral Health Division provides support to individuals and families facing mental health concerns, with particular attention to children and adolescents under 18. Through its Children & Youth Services (CYS) program, the division runs a 14-bed emergency shelter. Licensed mental health staff are available on site around the clock, offering ongoing help to young people and their families whenever support is needed.
Services are designed to deliver effective behavioral health care within a caring, state-approved environment. For youth, the center serves as a secure place to receive urgent shelter and professional assistance. Experienced staff members collaborate with each young person and their family to respond to current challenges, while also providing support and direction in a structured and safe setting.
In addition, the department works to strengthen the wellbeing of the broader community. It collaborates with tribal partners, local cities, schools, and businesses to promote a healthy local culture. This partnership approach encourages residents and families to adopt healthier routines, supporting a resilient and economically stable North Slope.
