About Alaska Behavioral Health

Alaska Behavioral Health Child and Family Clinic supports children, adolescents, and families who face emotional or behavioral challenges such as trauma, anxiety, and aggressive behavior. The clinic provides intensive outpatient programs (IOP) and partial hospitalization (PHP), with a strong emphasis on trauma-informed treatment. It is connected to a broader national system of Child Trauma Centers both in and beyond Alaska.

Services are guided by individualized care plans that match each family’s situation. Treatment may include evidence-based approaches such as trauma-focused cognitive behavioral therapy (TF-CBT) and eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR). Through these therapies, children and families work to build practical coping skills, strengthen relationships, and improve communication, developing healthier ways to handle everyday difficulties.

The center operates in an outpatient, community-based format, including a PHP option for ages 9–17 that offers a more intensive therapy experience. Care is designed to help patients and their families apply progress in their own homes and communities rather than through a residential model. The outpatient program also includes skill-building, activity-based therapies, and lunch.
